Lorus Titanium

Over the last few years I’ve been collecting a few watches; mostly cheap digital watches from Casio and Timex, a few slightly more expensive watches from Citizen, Garmin and Coros, and I thought I’d write about some of them here. I’ve already written a little about my new running watch (a Timex Ironman), but today I’m sharing another new watch that I think will be my daily ‘work’ watch – a Lorus Titanium (model # RG879CX9).

Various YouTube channels have praised the previous version of the cream faced watch, and having bought the current version and liked it, when I saw a black-faced version available I knew I had to add that too.

Lorus titanium – cream face – on a replacement green strap.

Whereas the cream watch comes with a green fabric strap that’s pretty awful and got swapped out, the black one comes with a titanium bracelet. I knew that I would also replace that straight away with a soft velcro strap, and it has made a really comfortable and light watch (30g). The strap I’ve put on it has no buckle, and has two layers of soft, stretchy material under the wrist, making it super comfortable when I’m typing, and while wearing in general.

The watch is 37mm, so is a good size for my 16.5cm (6.5 inch) wrist, and has 100 metres water resistance. I find it to be very legible, more so than the cream version, and the lume seems reasonable, but is only on the hands. It would be perfect if it had sapphire glass rather than a plain mineral crystal, but that would push the price up even further than the considerable rise already seen in the last couple of years (from about £40 to £70+).  That price rise means that it isn’t as great a deal as it once was, but so far I really like it and can see myself wearing it daily for some time.
